In the spirit of the growing season, the Hilltop Conservancy is having an event to celebrate honeybees today, June 26, at 11:30 a.m. You’ll get to see an observation hive and learn from New Jersey Beekeepers Association member and Joseph Lelinho, a blue ribbon winner in the group’s 2010 honey show, about these important pollinators. If you want to go, look for Conservancy members in the parking lot off Courter Lane in North Caldwell. If rain is falling, or day is very cloudy, this event will be rescheduled.
The Conservancy, which is the non-profit set up to maintain the Hilltop as a nature preserve, also is looking for letters of support as it seeks a Green Acres Program grant to upgrade the Hilltop’s western hiking route. If you’re a Hilltop fan, the Conservancy needs you to write a letter telling how you how use the Hilltop and why you value open space and a healthy ecosystem. All the information about the letters is on the Conservancy’s Web site, but you’ve got to get your letter in by June 30.[mappress]
