Munchmobile Loves Mardi Gras

The Star Ledger‘s Munchmobile has hit the road for another summer of exploring the food of New Jersey, and today’s paper carries a report on its search for the best cake. It found one it really liked in Verona, the strawberry shortcake at Mardi Gras. Here’s what it said, in part:

The strawberry shortcake is a model of this most American of desserts; shortcake parties started popping up in the mid-19th century as a celebration of summer. One Muncher, Bill Ackershoek, Emily’s dad, would call Mardi Gras’ strawberry shortcake the day’s best cake.
