Seven Verona Athletes Advance To Meet Of Champions

The Verona Track Team had an impressive showing among the top athletes from about 40 schools in the Group championships this weekend in South Plainfield. Verona had two golds: Rebecca Slotkin, who won the pole vault with a height of 10-06 and Dave Oster, who won the Group title in the 3,200-Meter Run for third consecutive year with a time of 9:16.73, despite battling a sore hip. Ashlee Petroski took second place in the 400-Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:04.60 and Rebecca Lee took third in the Shot Put with a throw of 35:07.50.

Overall, seven Verona athletes placed in the top six in their events, and will be going to the Meet of Champions next weekend: Ashlee Petroski (400-Meter Hurdles), Kelly Scully (1,600-Meter Run), Rebecca Slotkin (Pole Vault), Kweku Sapara-Grant (Triple Jump), Rebecca Lee (Shot Put), and Dave Oster and Dave Lukas (3,200-Meter Run).
