Dave Oster received a scholar-athlete award at the Men of Essex Awards dinner on May 19.

Men of Essex was founded in 1958 to foster academics, athletics and community service among youth of Essex County.  The Men of Essex choose the awardees based on recommendations of school and sports writers, and references from within each student’s community.

Oster attended the dinner with his father and Coach Sebastian Powell. He received special mention for breaking the course record at Brookdale Park during the 2009 Essex Cross Country Championship, setting a new meet record at the Sectional Championship at Warinanco Park, and for serving on the Verona Volunteeer Fire Department and working as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the Verona Pool.
