There was something for everyone interested in the arts last night at Verona High School. The VHS Jazz and Concert choir sang in the front foyer; mosaics, paintings, collages, photographs and graphics arts were on display in the gym; one-act plays were performed in the cafeteria, and culinary students gave out out delicious samples of their kitchen creativity. (probably for the last time, since the program is not slated to be offered next year due to budget cuts.) You could even purchase work of art for a song: compressed glass necklaces, earrings and ceramic trivets, as well as Hearts for Hope that you could decorate yourself.
Below is a video of a selection from the choir’s West Side Story medley. Note piano accompanist Emma McFarland’s agility on the keys despite her sprained wrist. She’s had many a gig accompanying chorus and band numbers throughout middle and high school; we are all going to miss her gifted playing, but none more than choir director Amanda Hamilton. You can see the videos of “Lollipop” and Lady Gaga’s “Speechless” on our YouTube site.
