Two teams of readers from H.B. Whitehorne Middle School traveled to Chatham with HBW media specialist Jennifer Kleinknecht on Friday, May 14, for an inter-scholastic Battle of the Books competition. Verona’s 6th graders beat teams from five other schools to come in first, while the team comprised of 7th and 8th graders placed second in their battle!

The students who competed were Ashley Able, Juliana Conlan, Justin Drosdowski, Emma Francullo, Dane Kish, Erinn McKenna, Christina Oster, Jerry Robson, Claire Rysavy, Elizabeth Rysavy,  Chris Valentine and Matt Zebrowski.

The Battle of the Books is a state-wide reading competition for students in grades three through eight that is based on lists of books picked by the New Jersey Association of School Librarians. If your kids want to get a jump on next year, the reading list for the 2010-2011 competitions is here.
