Families with younger kids may be at Disney World this week, but anyone with older kids in sports is in town because the high school sports teams have a full schedule of games.
But first, a world about a key deadline for summer that you have to hit this week: The last day for registering for Verona Pool without paying a late fee is this Friday, April 30. All the info about membership categories and rates is here. The late fee is $20.
And now for the sports, which can make for a great, cheap afternoon out even if you don’t have someone on the team. The boys’ tennis team, which is having a good season, has a light schedule this week. There’s a home match against East Side High School today (weather permitting) and an away game against Bloomfield on Wednesday. The boys’ and girls’ track teams are supposed to face Shabazz today at home, but the big event is the County Relays on Friday, which will be held in Livingston.
The girls’ softball team faces Newark Academy today at home. They are away against Cedar Grove on Wednesday and back at home against Belleville on Friday. The ladies of lacrosse are home against Lacordaire today and away at Glen Ridge on Wednesday.
The boys’ lacrosse team has a three-game week, starting with a home face-off with Nutley this evening at Centennial Field. East Side High is the opponent for Thursday’s game at the turf field, and they face Millburn on Friday.
VHS baseball has the busiest schedule, starting with a home game against MKA today. The boys are away at Livingston tomorrow, home versus Cedar Grove on Wednesday and end the week away at Bernards on Friday.
There are no town government meetings this week, but you can get your car cleaned in a fundraiser for the class of 2010 tomorrow. Also note: Two of the Verona Public Library‘s three events for kids–Book Bingo and Movie Afternoon–have been canceled due to illness, but the concert with Presley and Melody is still on.
You can also end the week with entertainment. As we told you VHS students Sean McGinley and Michael Hardenberg will be performing in Fiddler On The Roof in Caldwell.
