There was lots of action for the Hillbillies yesterday.  Here’s a brief recap:

  • The Softball team got its second victory of the season by defeatingColumbia 5-3.  Marissa Manley went 6 1/3 innings earning herself the win for the Hillbillies.   Theresa Lau propelled the offense, knocking  in 2 runs, scoring 2 runs,  and hitting 2 doubles.
  • Girls’ Lacrosse won a thriller against Essex County Rival Caldwell by a score of 14-13.  Verona erased an 8-6 halftime deficit by scoring 8 times in the 2nd half.  DonnaJo DiNorcia added 4 goals while Casie Milmoe and Julieanne Mascera each found the back of the net 3 times.  Melanie McClellan had 16 saves  in the win.

  • The bats still haven’t woken up for the Baseball team, which dropped a heartbreaker 2-1 to Caldwell.   As has been a theme so far early in the season, the boys got a great effort on the mound from Connor Carr but could not push very many runs across.  Anthony Oranges knocked in the lone run for Verona with 2 outs in the seventh inning.
  • The Tennis team improved to 4-2 with a win over Whippany Park.  Paul Corrente and Noah Herman each won their Singles matches while both Verona Doubles Teams (Will Schenkel/Matt Tuorto and Mack Kirby/Brian Farrell) were victorious.
