One Sure Sign Of Spring

The Tomato Man's GardenSome people declare spring by the calendar, some by the blooming of a favorite plant. I judge it by Tony Lomanto’s garden.

Mr. Lomanto is known as the “Tomato Man” by anybody who has lived in town for any length of time because he grows tomatoes that are bigger and better than anybody else’s on a plot of land that is smaller than most driveways. And to me, the best sign that spring has sprung is when Mr. Lomanto turns the dirt on his garden for a new season of planting.

It’s spring.
