A group of girls at Verona High School, with guidance from student assistant counselor Dana Lustig, are running a three-day program at the school this week for National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. One of the leaders, Christine Maccia, waged a battle with anorexia that was chronicled in the Star-Ledger last year.
Yesterday, the girls manned an information table during lunch period. Students could take a quiz that educated them about eating disorders and be entered in a prize drawing. Today, art teacher Cindy Sherman will run workshops for self-expression through art. On Thursday, local therapist Abby Sarrett-Cooper, who teaches psychology at Caldwell College, will hold a seminar on body image.
