Verona High School senior Sean Shabazian and junior Colin Farawell both took first place in their respective weight classes in the District wrestling tournament this weekend at West Essex High School. Both defeated opponents from West Orange High School to take their titles; Shabazian won the 171 weight class by decision and Farawell the 189 by pin.

Thirteen high schools competed in the tournament, and thirteen wrestlers competed for Verona: Bobby Hildebrant, Anthony Decandia, Josh Held, Mike Randall, Tom Cundari, Taylor DelleColle, Joe Cordasco, Frank Grecco,  Sean Shabazian, Colin Farawell, Joe Festa and Anthony Parra. DelleColle, Randall and Festa each took fourth.

According to Coach Don Morgenroth, all the wrestlers wrestled hard, but only first, second and third place finishers move on to the  Region Tournament next weekend. There, the competition will be even stiffer; 36 or more teams, both public and private, will compete.
