The view from the park road Friday evening, as lights from emergency vehicles on Lakeside reflected in the water.

Verona firefighters responded swiftly to a chimney fire at 78 Lakeside Avenue, just beyond Pease, about five-thirty Friday evening. The half-dozen emergency vehicles on Lakeside and Pease, including three fire trucks and assorted emergency vehicles, caused quite a commotion in rush-hour traffic.

Clearly, somebody was paying more attention to the fire than to the road: The driver of one SUV on Lakeside heading toward Bloomfield collided with another, ricocheted off that vehicle and ended up against a telephone pole on the park side of Lakeside.

We were there to film the house fire and caught the accident as we were driving home. You can hear the crunch of contact in the first video and see where the black SUV ended up in the second, just beyond the headlights on the right.  Fortunately, traffic was going slowly and we hope that means that no one was seriously hurt.
