MyVeronaNJ-LaningYes, I’ve been telling you a lot about the private preschools in Verona. But there’s another option and the deadline for applying is fast approaching.

Verona has a half-day public pre-K program that operates at Laning Avenue School. It’s limited spaces are awarded by lottery and unlike the regular public school, it charges tuition–$325 per month for the 2010-2011 school year. Three-year-olds are in school from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and four-year-olds from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. The classes, which run five days a week, are taught by state-certified teachers.

Here are the rules: You can apply for the lottery if your child will be three or four by September 30, 2010, has not been identified with special needs, and is toilet trained. Applications are available at Laning and the other three elementary schools; better still, you can download one here. However you get your application, you’ve got to turn in at Laning no later than 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25.  The lottery will be held on Friday, February 26.

You can learn more about the program at one of the two open houses (parents only) on Thursday, February 11. The first runs from 10 to 11:00 a.m., the second from 1 to 2 p.m. Reserve your spot by calling 973-239-9010 during school hours. For more information, call 973-239-9010.[mappress]
