While many Americans marked the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday with a national day of service, Veronans turned out in the center of town to help one of their own.
Carmela Vece, a long-time volunteer at school and sports events, was severely injured in an auto accident just before Christmas. On Monday, January 18 dozens of children and adults came out to O’Neil’s Restaurant to have lunch, buy cookies and make Get Well cards for her. It was particularly heartening to see all the kids, who got a first-hand lesson in the importance of community.
Deb Aldiero, who organized the event along with Ann Jocelyn, Una Kistner, Randi Marlo, Ann Marie Ryan, was there with her camera. We’ve posted one of her photos here; 32 more are in an album on MyVeronaNJ’s Facebook page.
If you didn’t make it to O’Neil’s on Monday, donations can still be left at the home of Una Kistner (4 Laurel Court) or Randi Marlo (142 Sunset Avenue).
