Today is the last day for kindergarten registration so if you haven’t registered your child for kindergarten yet you’ll want to make sure that happens. If you can’t get to the school with the paperwork be sure to at least call. (There are links to each school in the “Official Verona” blogroll to the right, and below.)
Part of Verona’s preparation for kindergarten includes kindergarten workshops. All 4 elementary schools in town hold them on the sames dates: February 6, March 6, April 10 and May 8. All workshops are from 10 to 11 a.m. at a designated location within the school. The workshops are a great way for the kids to get acquainted with their future school and for parents to meet each other.
Registration is required for each school’s workshop, so in case you don’t have the names here they are:
- Brookdale: Beth: 973-571-2069
- Laning: Lisa Freedman: 973-857-5825
- F.N. Brown: Valerie Balogh: 973-699-1194
- Forest: Cheryl Lugo: 973-580-9810
All of that said, you are probably aware that Verona has only half-day kindergarten, and with the recent budget talks, there is no hope of a full-day kindergarten in the near future. If you do need (or would prefer) a full-day kindergarten, there are a couple of options in town. Community Montessori Academy offers a kindergarten class, as does Our Lady of the Lake. The Children’s House offers a kindergarten-enrichment program from 12:45 to 3 p.m. offering reading readiness, writing preparation, and fundamental math.
