Now here’s something you don’t see in Verona every day: a dog show.
The K-9 Obedience Training Club of Essex County is going to be holding its annual Dog Obedience Trial at VHS this Sunday, January 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club and if you go, you’ll see about 250 dogs competing at levels from beginner to highly skilled.
Tickets are $3 for adults; $2 for seniors 62 and over; $2 for children under 12 (children under 4 are admitted free). Spectators may enter any time during the day and stay as long as you like. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately, you can’t bring Fido: Dog attendance is limited to competitors.
The K-9 Obedience Training Club of Essex County, NJ offers group obedience classes for all breeds and ages of dogs through the Montclair Cooperative School.
A special attraction this year will be a demonstration by Petra Ford and her Labrador Retriever, Tyler, who was the AKC National Obedience Invitational Champion in both 2008 and 2009. Here’s a video of Tyler in action.
