The VHS Girls’ Varsity Basketball team has clinched a post-season playoff berth with their 57-30 win over St. Vincent’s on Tuesday at home.
The girls are undefeated in league play and have been rolling over the competition in the new Super-Essex league by margins of 20 points and more. Their record stands at 8-1, with their only loss coming against West Essex in the Caldwell College Holiday tournament.
The team, lead by Coach Patricia Hemsley-Cartotto, has been bolstered by the play under the boards of 5’11” senior Michelle Petronaci and the ball-handling and three-point prowess of senior guard Gianna Pignatello. Other major contributions include Junior DonnaJo DiNorcia’s agility and jump-shot, Amanda Langan’s support under the hoop, and the flexibility and quickness of Kara Bartow and Julieanne Mascera. Erin Percevault provides important reinforcement under the boards.
The girls play Solomon Schecter today at 4:00 at home.
