Lukas Brothers Power Verona Track Win

MyVeronaNJ-gold-runnerDave and Nick Lukas had a banner day at the Super Essex Conference Championships at the Jersey City Armory on Saturday, leading the Verona boys track team to win the event’s Liberty Division.

Dave Lukas won the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, with times of 4:56.15 and 10:47.73, respectively, while Nick finished second in both. Eddie Congdon was third in the 3,200. Dave Oster won the 800 with a time of 2:08.19, but did not run in the 1,600 or 3,200 races. Kweku Sapara-Grant and Luke Sheehan finished first and second in the high jump and Dwight Tucci came in 6th. Ryan Thomas won the shot put and Kyle Thomas came in fourth. Joel Paisner was second in the 55-meter hurdles. The Verona boys finished second in the 1,600-meter relay, with a time of 3:57.39.

The Verona girls team finished second in the Liberty Division to Mount St. Dominic. Kelly Scully was third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:58.05, and second in the 3,200 with a 12:29.75 pace. Heather Sweeney was third in that race, at 13:02.65 and fifth in the 1,600. Christina Flores was fifth in the 3,200. Ashlee Petroski and Rebecca Slotkin finished one-two in the 55-meter hurdles. Rebecca Lee was third in shot put and Coleen Carr finished fourth in the high jump. Verona’s girls also finished second in their 1,600 relay with a time of 4:32.80.
