As if we didn’t have enough trouble keeping our winter weight in check, Montclair’s Restaurant Week kicks off tonight. According to Baristanet, there are 43 restaurants participating in this year’s event, which runs through February 7. The event will benefit food outreach programs at three of our favorite local charities, the Salvation Army, Human Needs Food Pantry and Toni’s Kitchen.
Baristanet says there will also be Restaurant Week programs in Nutley, Belleville and Bloomfield from February 15 to 23 (through March 1 in Nutley) and in Newark beginning February 12.
There won’t be a Restaurant Week in Verona, but Tom Malanga is doing his own food outreach at Sonny’s On The Avenue at 624 Bloomfield Avenue. For the next six weeks or so, Sonny’s is offering free appetizers and pasta every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tom says to bring whatever you’d like to drink and stop on by. “Our best advertisement is our food,” he says.
